Inom en inte alltför avlägsen framtid kan biltvätten vara ett minne blott, åtminstone om man får tro forskare vid Eindhovens tekniska universitet.
I den vetenskapliga tidskriften Advanced Materials beskriver forskarna en ny typ av lack med självrengörande egenskaper. Lacken är starkt vattenavstötande och molekylstrukturen har förmågan att reparera repor i materialet. Vatten som kommer i kontakt med ytan rinner av och tar smutsen med sig.
“En regnskur emellanåt är allt som behövs för att hålla bilen ren”, skriver forskarna.
Enligt Catarina Esteves, som leder forskningen, kan lacken vara redo för produktion inom sex till åtta år. Priset uppges vara jämförbart med dagens konventionella lack.

Tvätta en bil och vaxa den regelbundet i säg 5 år och jämför den sedan med
en bil som aldrig är tvättad eller vaxad under 5 år när det är dags att byta bil. Jämför då gärna inbytespriset på dessa bilar.
