Modellen är byggd utifrån produktionsbilen som introducerades i Sverige i somras och går under beteckningen GT86 CS-V3. Namnet skvallrar om att bilen är framtagen för att köras i V3-klassen i den tyska VLN-serien, men också i andra standardvagnsklasser.
Bland annat har chassiet gjorts styvare, viktfördelningen vässats och därtill har avgassystemet, bromsarna och fjädringen uppdaterats. Motorn är densamma som i standardbilen, det vill säga en boxermotor som levererar 200 häsar till bakhjulen.
Toyota skriver i ett pressmeddelande att man med GT86 CS-V3 vill göra ”det möjligt för privatpersoner att tävla på bana till överkomliga kostnader”. GT86 kostar i standardutförande 304 900 kronor och racingversionen ungefär 100 000 kronor mer.
